Immaculate Conception Church celebrates Cesar Chavez day

Teresita Kontos

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - A local church held a special service this morning to honor the labor rights leader.

Cesar Chavez was born in Yuma, Ariz. and baptized at Immaculate Conception Church.

For many years Immaculate Conception Church held a service in English and Spanish as a way to bring locals together to remember Chavez.

“He’s one of the main people to help everybody in the fields,” said local church member Sergio Gomez.

Cesar Chavez Day became a national holiday in 2014 and today would be Chavez's 95th birthday.
