Families mourn the loss of multiple deaths after golf van crash

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Today families and members of one New Mexico university are mourning the loss of six college golfers and their coach.

Nine people died, seven of them in a van on their way back from a tournament in a fiery collision that also killed the driver of a second vehicle and a young teen.

The crash happened in western Texas overnight on Tuesday.

A memorial was then set up at their school, the University of Southwest in New Mexico for the members of the golf team.

They died doing what young athletes across the country do every day: traveling for a competition.

Coach Tyler James also died in the accident, and two surviving players were in critical condition as of Wednesday.
