Region 1 title game preview
AWC women's basketball ready for the challenge
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - For a 2nd consecutive season, Arizona College women's basketball is only a single win away from making the national tournament.
Since the Lady Matadors fell in last year's Region 1 final, the program has responded with 1 of the best seasons in it's 23 year history.
They went 28-2 overall and clinched the top seed in this year's Region 1 tournament.
The Lady Mats now prepare for a title game showdown with Eastern Arizona, a team they swept in conference play during the course of the regular season.
The Cardinal and Gold are looking to respond after having their record 24 game winning streak snapped in their regular season finale.
The status of whether or not ACCAC conference player of the year Alliance Ndiba returns from a partial ACL tear injury she suffered earlier this season still remains in question.
We caught up with the Lady Mats, who express 1 big factor of this championship game; that it will be on their home court.
They want to send a message to Lady Matador fans to show up to "the House" and to make their voices heard this Friday night.
Oh, it's very important just for our ladies, the hard work they put in and it's fun basketball. It'd be great for the community, if people come out and help us.
Chelsea Dewey - AWC women's basketball assistant coach
I want them to be on top of their voice. I want them to cheer for us, even if we're down, you know, still cheer for us. Still keep it going, keep it going, keep it going. Keep it consistent with the cheering. That's all.
Christeina Bryan - Sophomore Forward - AWC women's basketball team
The Region 1 women's basketball championship game will tip off on Friday night at "the House" at 7 pm Mountain time.
