Hundreds born amidst Russia attacks on Ukraine

(KYMA, KECY/CBS) - Hundreds of babies were born in hospital basements as Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine.

The cries of babies could be heard despite the bombings happening during a war and mothers are forced into bomb shelters underneath hospitals.

"Of course, it is terrible what is happening. We are living in real hell. I never imagined that something like this could happen in the 21st century," said one pregnant mother in Kyiv.

Barricaded windows and concrete walls were the only ways hospital staff could set up protection.

Despite the ongoing war, many are hopeful for the next generation to be born and some even these newborns as a sign of hope.
