AZ bill improves benefits for Native American veterans
WASHINGTON D.C. (KYMA. KSWT. KECY) - Arizona senator Kyrsten Sinema is co-sponsoring a bill improving health care for Native American veterans.
The 'Health Care Access for Urban Native Veterans Act' would ensure that VA (Veteran Affairs) covers health care services provided at urban Indian Health centers.
“Native American veterans in Arizona face unique challenges accessing VA services," said Sinema, member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.
"Our bipartisan bill helps Native American veterans in Arizona access the care they have earned.”
The bill would allow urban Indian care centers to be reimbursed for provideding services to Native American veterans and other Native American patients.
Currently, only federally and tribe- operated facilities may claim reimbursements for care.
The bill is supported by National Congress of American Indians, National Council of Urban Indian Health, and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
