Plans to be made for increased road safety

(KYMA, KECY/CBS) - A new plan is being put in place after the number of car crashes has been on the rise across the nation.

While car crashes have been on the decline in the past three decades, that decline has begun to go back up.

United States Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called this a "national crisis" as roads may be a lot deadlier than before.

Over 20,000 people have died in car crash-related incidents in the first half of 2021, the largest amount of deaths since 2006.

A strategy to rethink speed limits and use more speed cameras are considered to be part of a plan to increase road safety.

There may be more inclusions for the nation which some states have already began to use, such as longer wait times for pedestrian crossings and more dedicated bike lanes.
