Car crash on 4th Ave & 24th St. turns fatal

Yuma Police Department says one person is dead after crash brought busy intersection to a standstill

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Police Department (YPD) responded to reports of a car crash Tuesday night, which resulted in one person dead.

YPD said two vehicles were involved in the incident at the intersection of 4th Avenue and 24th Street. Officers arrived on scene around 6 p.m.

A 66-year-old woman was driving a Honda Odyssey and trying to make a left turn onto 4th Avenue when she was struck by a 35-year-old male driving a GMC Jimmy.

The car struck the passenger side of the Honda Odyssey - a 45-year-old man was inside the car when it was struck.

The drivers and single passenger were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) for treatment. The 45-year-old passenger was pronounced dead. Both drivers are said to be in stable condition.

Traffic was diverted from all sides of the typically busy intersection.

YPD said speed does appear to be a factor, and are continuing their investigation.

This incident follows a string of recent crashes in Yuma, including one that happened over the weekend and resulted in one death.
