The Yuma Union High School District is receiving funding to purchase new school buses

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) The Yuma Union High School District is receiving over $200,000 to help purchase new buses.

Out with the old and in with the new.

YUHSD is set to replace six of its school buses.

The funding is from the Clean Diesel grant providing better ways to improve school transportation at a lower cost.

“We are replacing with alternate fuel. They are cleaner, they're quieter, they're better for student health, they're better for the environment, better for the community. There are all of those situations that come into how this grant helps us to replace buses that are just better overall,” says Ron Schepers the Director of Transportation. 

Schepers applies, manages, and takes care of orders, to make all this possible.

The total cost of the buses is over 1-million dollars so this funding helps offset that cost.

“It makes me feel great not only are we able to save the district some money, the money can go back into student education,” says Schepers. 

Schepers also does it for the environment.

“I like the idea of going more green. You know taking care of the environment, you know those kinds of things because you know those things are important to me, you know we only have one world to live in,” says Schepers. 

This is the fourth time YUHSD has been rewarded and hopes to get more buses in the future.

The six selected buses will be replaced this September.
