Hospital District Board approves YRMC construction projects

The District Board heard a financial presentation from YRMC's CFO at their meeting on January 12th.

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - The Hospital District Board One voted to approve multiple building projects proposed by Yuma Regional Medical Center.

Among the approved projects are improvements to the hospital’s lab.

Concerns over the condition of the lab were brought up at the special district board meeting on January 4th.

New construction aims to give technicians more room to test for cancer and ensure proper conditions are kept to maintain accurate testing and sterile equipment.

The lab also has been used for covid testing during the pandemic.

YRMC needed the district board’s approval for the projects as they are in excess of half a million dollars.

“This board was presented adequate financial information regarding the requested capital improvements,” District Board Chairman Jeffrey Polston said.

Other approved projects include construction for a new MRI in the hospital, which will end the need to transport patients to another facility.

No official date has been set for the beginning of construction.
