4-month-old baby dies after being left in hot van in Phoenix

Phoenix Police said a 4-month-old was found dead inside a van left by her foster father Tuesday.

Arizona Family reports she was found inside the van at the Washington Elementary School District service center at 39th Avenue, north of Cactus Road.

According to reports, the Phoenix Police Department (PPD) said the foster father had dropped some off his children off at daycare at 7 a.m. The father then worked for a few hours and sometime later, he picked up the girl from an appointment.

After the appointment, he went back to the service center and left the girl in the van, said Arizona Family.

The foster father is an administrator with the school district.

Det . Luis A. Samudio from PPD said, ” When he decides to leave work at 3:30 p.m. or so is when he noticed he forgot his child in the car. ”

Reports said the adoptive father did not know how long the baby was in the van, adding that he didn’t know where the baby was supposed to be.

” Even though today’s not one of the hottest days of the year, but still the cars get very warm, very hot, and a child is very fragile at 4 months old, ” said Samudio .

Arizona Family reports this is the third child in the Valley to die after being left in a hot car in 2019.
