Christmas tree pickup begins in Yuma County

The service is free and will go on through the new year

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Starting December 28, you can recycle your Christmas tree in Yuma county.

Some people like to keep their trees up until the new year, but several trees were dropped off today behind the Yuma Civic Center.

The city of Yuma will be collecting the trees free of charge.

But you do need to take the lights and ornaments off first before they are recycled.

There is a city employee at the drop-off who will unload the tree and then put it into the trailer.

"We get one like every thirty minutes," Antonio Mendoza said. "You just bring them here, drop them off, and we take care of the rest.”

The tree drop-off is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through January 7th but is closed on December 31.

The site is behind the Yuma Civic Center on South Avenue A.
