Memorials appear where two men were murdered

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, FOX 9) - A gunman is still on the loose after murdering 37-year-old Monico Rico and 28-year-old Angel Torres early Sunday morning.

Monico Rico, 37, double murder victim

“I heard a guy sitting on the corner saying 'Help! Help! I’ve been shot.'” said one 911 caller.

Memorials now mark the spots officers found both bodies just yards apart near 14th Avenue and 9th Place. The 911 caller told News 11 he heard seven shots.

“I [saw] a black truck fleeing the scene. I could tell a make or model. It was just a black truck and it was traveling very fast," said the 911 caller.

Yuma Police have not confirmed if this is a truck they are looking for in connection to the double murder.

At the scene, Sunday morning was leftover medical equipment and crime scene tape blocking off the gruesome scene where the two men were found lying on the ground.

“They began CPR. The Yuma Fire Department also responded and transported them to the hospital,” explained Officer Janet Sanchez, Yuma Police Department.

Both men died at the hospital, according to Yuma Police.

A family member said Rico was shot three times, but it's unknown how many bullets struck Torres.

Now nearby residents are on edge.
“It’s just very scary hearing gunshots up close," said the 911 caller. “You always hear fireworks, but not gunshots or anything like this.”

Torres' family has started a Go Fund Me account for funeral costs.
