Trooper leaps out of the way of a runaway big rig near Lubbock, Texas

News crew barely escapes

LUBBOCK, Texas (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Stunning video captures the moment a news crew came dangerously close to the story they were covering.

It happened Thursday in west Texas while the crew was covering a pileup on Highway 84 near Lubbock.

Video shows a big rig lose control, swerve around the wreckage, and careen onto the median. State troopers and the photographer have to dive out of the way as the trailer tips over and skids across the grass.

One trooper was pinned into a white pickup. The trailer did hit another trooper. Both are expected to be okay. The photographer ran for his life and avoided injury.

"My first thought was to get out of the way. I was not far from where that pick-up was and that trooper. And as soon as that semi started to roll over, and then slide, I just turned around and ran. I left my camera there where it was and I ran the opposite direction. I thought I was going to be hit by it too." said reporter Caleb Holder.

There were a total of five crashes in the area. They involved four big rigs and four smaller vehicles. The wreckage closed down the highway for hours.
