Human smugglers plead guilty to transporting over 100 migrants in Arizona

Arizona-based smugglers may face multi-year sentence
TUSCON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - On November 18, Amalia Gonzalez-Lara has pleaded guilty in connection to a human smuggling operation in Avondale, Arizona.
Gonzalez-Lara admitted to acting as coordinator and conspired to transport over 100 undocumented immigrants for profit.
Law enforcement discovered over 20 migrants in Avondale, Arizona back in January, which was later discovered to be used as a regular harboring station.
Co-conspirator Sergio Vazquez-Flores also pleaded guilty for conspiring to harbor migrants at the Avondale stash house.
The maximum penalty for this case is ten years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.
Gonzalez-Lara and Vazquez-Flores have their sentencing set for early 2022.
