UPDATE: Hit and run suspect on trial

Recent hit and run sees court procedures

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - An 87-year-old accused of a hit and run is in court and out on bail.

Hector Contreras is out of custody while the victim of the crash is currently in the hospital with a broken leg.

The mother of the victim made an appearance in court and spoke on her son being in a Phoenix hospital for a month following the crash.

Contreras is facing a felony hit and run charge and will be back in court in two weeks.

The accident occurred on S. 4th Avenue and 16th Street where the 41-year-old victim was taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to a Phoenix-area hospital.

Contreras left the scene of the crash without stopping to help the victim and without reporting it, but was found by the police hours later.
