Arizona Senators urge administration to release drought relief for state
Drought seriously impacting state
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - On November 3, Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema released a letter urging a quick release of drought relief and for more funds to be allocated to the Department of Water Resources.
This letter for the U.S. Department of Interior follows a drought in the states, with decreasing lake levels impacting Arizona cities, tribes, and agriculture.
“As state and local officials continue to work to conserve and recycle water, it is crucial that the federal government continue to provide the resources they need as soon as possible," began the letter from Senators Kelly and Sinema. "The State of Arizona and other non-federal partners have set aside funding for additional water conservation efforts in 2022. As such, we request that you quickly release the drought relief funds for the Bureau in the CR and encourage you to match efforts in our state with federal resources."
In October, Senator Kelly held a meeting with the Senate Subcommittee on Water and Power to discuss the drought and the impact climate change has had on the Colorado River.
