Local movie theater taking precautions for “Joker” premiere

If you went to the premiere of ” The Joker ” last night, you may have noticed some extra security.

The extra law enforcement wasn’t the sign of a problem, but rather a case of the theater being proactive.

Those inside the theater for last night’s showing say they did see extra security.

still theater owners across the country aren’t taking any chases given the deadly 2012 shooting during the premiere of ” The Dark Knight Rises ” in suburban Denver. A man there opened fire on moviegoers – killing 12 and injuring dozens more.

The Arizona Republic reported that incident motivated Harkins theaters to increase security.

A statement says in part…

” The safety of our guests and our team is our highest priority. We continuously review the security of our theaters and remain in close contact with local law enforcement agencies to ensure we provide the safest environment possible for our guests. Although we are not aware of any specific threats, we will have increased security procedures and presence in place to bring comfort to our guests. ”

Management added moviegoers need to leave costumes and masks at home.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said it did not post deputies at last night’s showings.

The joker will be showing at the movie theaters around town.
