CBP seizes drugs and unreported U.S.currency at Port of Nogales

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two men at Arizona Port of Nogales involved in connection with a pair of separate smuggling attempts over the weekend.

On May 10, a 26-year-old Mexican man and his 28-year-old United States Citizen passenger were referred for further inspection of his Ford Seda where agents say a search of his vehicle led to the discovery of two large bundles of U.S. currency that was hidden within the car’s rear seats. Agents say the packages contained $96,000.

On May 12, CBP officers referred a 28-year-old Mexican man for further inspection of his Toyota Sedan where a canine detected in the rocker panels. Officers say they removed 30 packages of drugs from the panels and found 10 pounds of heroin, worth $268,000.

In addition, agents seized 27 pounds of methamphetamine, worth $82,000 and 1.5 pounds of fentanyl, worth $56,000, agents say.

Officers seized the drugs and currency, as well as both vehicles. The subjects were all arrested and then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
