CBP arrest a man on Highway 86

A man was arrested on Sunday, May 12, by The El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents on Highway 86 immigration checkpoint for suspicion of smuggling methamphetamine.

Agents say a 45-year-old man driving a gray 2006 Ford Explorer approached the checkpoint when a canine alerted to a scent in the vehicle. Agents sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigation.

According to agents, they discovered 40 packages within the gas tank of the Ford. Agents say they determined the substance in the package was consistent with characteristics of methamphetamine.

The total weight of the methamphetamine was 42.58 pounds, worth $97,934.

Agents say t he man, vehicle, and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
