Woman seriously injured in El Centro crash

The California Highway Patrol responded to an accident at Forrester Road at the intersection of Ross Road on Tuesday, May 7, where a vehicle crashed with a Peterbilt tractor leaving a woman with serious injuries.

The 46-year-old woman, Heather Noonan from Oceanside was transported to the hospital in Palm Springs and The Peterbilt driver, 66-year-old, Guillermo Gaona from Los Baños was not injured.

According to CHP, the tractor, driven by Gaona was in the northbound lane of Forrester Road when Noonan was driving in the westbound lane of Ross Road and slowing for the stop sign ahead.

Officers say Noonan rolled through the stop and into the direct path of the Peterbilt. Gaona was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the left rear side of the Mercedes.

Gaona was able to safely come to a stop after the collision onto the east shoulder of north Forrester Road. Noonan remained in her vehicle until emergency personnel arrived on the scene, officers say.

CHP says both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of this collision and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
