CBP officers seize $3.8 million worth of drugs
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales seized 268 pounds of heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine since Thursday on three separate drug seizures.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini referred a 31-year-old Sahuarita woman for further inspection as she attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico Thursday morning.
Agents say a canine detected a scent coming from the woman’s vehicle where officers removed 90 packages from her Dodge Sedan. The drugs were determined to be 78 pounds of meth, worth $233,000, 18 pounds of heroin, worth $489,000, and four pounds of fentanyl, worth $56,000.
Friday morning officers at Mariposa Crossing referred a Hyundai SUV for additional inspection as the 48-year-old Mexican male driver and his 43-year-old wife attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico. Agents say a canine alerted officers to the discovery of multiple packages of drugs inside the compartment beneath the rear seat.
According to agents, the drugs were identified as 42 pounds of fentanyl, worth $573,000, 83 pounds of heroin, worth $2,200,000, and 4 pounds of meth, worth $11,000.
On Sunday evening, officers at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing referred a 26-year-old Mexican man for further inspection of his Infinity Sedan. After a canine alert, agents say they removed 34 pounds of meth, worth $102,000, and seized 6 pounds of fentanyl, worth $79,000.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicles. The subjects were arrested and then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
