Yuma Elementary School District One in need of bus drivers

If you’re looking for a job, look no further than Yuma Elementary School District One.

The district is in need of new bus drivers.

According to Yuma Schools Transportation bus drivers, it’s actually a pretty rewarding gig.

As a college student, Susan Erwin was looking for a job that would fit in with her school schedule, and being a bus driver for Yuma Schools Transportation does just that.

Although she typically works six to eight hours a day, those hours are very flexible.

Most school bus drivers work a few hours in the mornings to pick kids up for school, then later in the evenings to drop them off home.

Which leaves plenty of time during the middle of the day to attend to personal needs.

School bus drivers also normally have weekends, holidays, and summers off.

Erwin has been a bus driver with Yuma Elementary School District One for two and a half years and told News 11 the best part of her job is making a small difference in the kids’ lives.

“It’s so important to make sure the kids are safe. We’re transporting the most precious cargo in the world. I love that I get to be a part of these kids’ lives. I have kids from years ago come and see me on my bus that no longer ride anymore. [The kids] give me hugs and tell me how much they appreciate me and how they’ll never forget me. It’s really kind of great,” said Erwin.

The Director of Transportation at Yuma Educational Transportation Consortium, Ron Schepers, said this is a great job for people who may work other jobs, are retired or just love being around kids.

To become a bus driver, there is no experience required.

However, there is a three-week training course to receive certification and a Class B commercial drivers license.
