Yuma residents join the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

It’s ‘National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day’ a public event put together by the Drug Enforcement Administration to offer residents a way to dispose of their unused and expired prescription drugs.

Pharmacists were on hand to received anything from prescription drugs, needles, syringes and over the counter medicine.

Lynn Hoskins who handed over a bag full of medication said she’s trying to be an example for her family.

“I Try to teach my grandkids and my family the importance of drug use. And the benefits and the downside to them,” said Hoskins.

Hoskins said handing in the expired and unused prescription drugs means none of her grandchildren can come into contact with them.

Hoskins added, “I do have a curious 9-year-old granddaughter, and she’s always in my medicine cabinet looking for bandaids. And I don’t want it there for her to get her hands on. Because she doesn’t know what it is.”

The pharmacist that spoke to News 11 said the items they collected today surpassed last years total and that the recent opioid epidemic could be a reason for it.
