CBP officers seize $998k worth in marijuana
U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested a Mexican national for an alleged attempt to smuggle 2,000 pounds of marijuana.
The officers referred a 26-year-old man from San Luis, Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, for additional inspection of the tractor-trailer as he attempted to enter the U.S. on Wednesday afternoon through the Port of San Luis.
According to officers, a narcotics detection canine alerted to a scent coming from the trailer which was empty at the time. The search led to the discovery of 170 packages within the roof of the trailer weighing 1,995 pounds and has an estimated value of 998,000.
CBP says officers seized the drugs and vehicle while the man was arrested and turned over to U.S.Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
