Motorcycle collision leaves one injured, one dead

California Highway Patrol said a woman riding passenger on a Harley Davidson motorcycle lost her life when the driver went off the road and they overturned.

The victims were riding on S-22 Road, also known as Salton Seaway, near Salton City.

The driver, identified as Cameron Luchyshin from Canada, and the woman were riding through the area going towards San Diego. CHP said Luchyshin failed to negotiate a turn on the road, causing them to overturn and be ejected.

Luchyshin and the woman were flown to hospitals nearby. She died of her injuries on her way to the hospital. Luchyshin’s condition is unknown.

The victims were both in their 60’s.

CHP Officer Javier Amezcua said, “In extreme weather conditions, rain, strong winds, drive with due caution and slower speeds accordingly. We don’t want to drive as fast as you normally would at 65 miles per hour in strong winds or in rainy conditions.”

The collision happened on Tuesday around 7 p.m. when local winds reached over 30 miles per hour.
