Wanted Yuma fugitive charged in fatal hit-and-run in Georgia

A Yuma native, with a warrant out for his arrest, was charged in Georgia for a separate incident after allegedly fleeing a fatal hit-and-run in late March in Georgia.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jonathan Sykes, of Yuma, was traveling along Highway 19 on March 31 when his Dodge Charger hit and killed 24-year-old Stephino Hudson who was in the roadway, according to the vehicle crash report from the Georgia State Patrol.

“I heard the impact and it looked like the vehicle hit something because it made a jolting motion,” according to a witness in the police report. “After that, a shoe fell in front of my vehicle and I realized the vehicle hit a person.”

According to court records in Yuma, Sykes has a warrant out for his arrest after being cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and allegedly possessing two pounds of marijuana.

According to ABC 27 in Tallahassee, Sykes was taken into custody and remains in the Mitchell County Jail.

Sykes made an initial court appearance on Tuesday. He faces five charges that include first-degree homicide by vehicle, felony hit-and-run, DUI, driving on a suspended license, and driving with expired tags.

His bond has been set at $30,000.
