Woman dies in motorcycle crash on Borrego Salton Seaway

A woman died and one man was injured after being involved in a motorcycle crash on the Borrego Salton Seaway Tuesday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) said Cameron Luchyshin, of Alberta, Canada, was driving his Harley Davidson Heritage with a woman as a passenger through the desert area of Borrego Salton Seaway (S-22), east of the San Diego County line.

For reasons still under investigation, authorities said Luchyshin was unable to adjust the turn as he approached a bend in the road and drove off the roadway. The Harley entered the dirt shoulder where the motorcycle overturned and ejected both riders.

Luchyshin was transported to Desert Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The woman, who was traveling with Luchyshin, died from her injuries while she was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital.

CHP said the area was experiencing strong wind conditions and could have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
