Border Patrol agents find dead man in Briar Canal

El Centro Sector Border Patrol discovered a dead man in Briar Canal near Barbara Worth Canal Monday night.

Customs and Border Protection said at around 9:18 p.m., agents noticed a man waving his arms near a canal around seven miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry.

Agents responded to the man’s location and found the man was pointing into the canal at another individual. Authorities realized the man appeared to be unresponsive and contacted the Border Search Trauma and Rescue team.

CBP officials added that the team was able to remove the man from the canal and attempted to administer first responder care. The man did not respond and it was determined that he was dead.

CBP officials discovered that the two individuals were siblings and Mexico nationals trying to illegally cross into the United States.

The scene was turned over to the Imperial County Sheriffs Coroner’s Office.
