Local reactions to Secretary Nielsen’s resignation

Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen will serve her last day in the President’s administration this Wednesday.

Nielsen resigned as Secretary only days after visiting the border with President Donald Trump.

In a statement Monday, Nielsen said she shares the same goal with the president when it comes to the goal of security at the Southern U.S. border.

Multiple sources are saying there was tension between the two; however, there has been no clear answer as to whether she was forced out of the position.

We asked local residents if they think Nielsen was forced to resign.

Most residents did not know much about the recent relationship between the President and Nielsen.

A local resident who said she was a strong Trump supporter said, ”

“I don’t think she was forced to resign, maybe it got too much for her and even if she was fired, I think it’s because Trump needs somebody stronger, somebody to do more because obviously, the problem is still here.”

Another resident, Adri, disagreed saying, “Honestly knowing the president and just having that little bit of information, probably, I mean knowing how things have been going and how politics are right now in general, and knowing he had somebody just to follow her immediately, yeah she was probably forced to resign.”
