New facility underway for IV Food Bank

A new facility is underway for the Imperial Valley Food Bank.

The non-profit helps low-income people and families every month through food donations.

The food bank partners with local charities and churches to deliver food across the county.

Their growing demand and support from the community allowed them to build a new facility.

The new facility will not only meet food safety requirements but will have enough space to store fresh food.

” The new food bank was a very necessary thing for us to do. We are completely out of room in our facilities, which are about twenty years old now, ” said Sara Griffen, executive director of Imperial Valley Food Bank.

The non-profit has served the community for 28 years, and they are at a record high number of people they serve.

“Our numbers are up, past the 20,000- mark per month, for the first time, really since the recession,” said Griffen.

With the donations of local businesses and the community, the food bank has helped decrease food insecurity in the county, but there is still more work that lies ahead.

With the new facility the Imperial Valley Food Bank hopes to continue feeding those who depend on a helping hand.

Griffen said , “We are so grateful for all those people who not only stepped up to help but actually donated. Knowing how important this infrastructure was in the county. ”

The Imperial Valley Food Bank is scheduled to move into their new facility this summer.
