ECPD conducts operation to tackle domestic violence

The El Centro Police Department made it clear that it will not tolerate domestic violence during an operation they carried out Friday.

A team of about a dozen officers, ranging from probation officers and detectives, assembled to look for 30 targets with domestic violence warrants and probation checks.

El Centro police (ECPD) said the detail resulted in four arrests.

One was on a probation violation. Police added the suspect had heroin inside his home.

” That man was David Dodson. He was taken into custody. I am aware that he did have an outstanding charge. He was located outside of his residence and ultimately taken into custody, ” said Detective Adrian Chilpa , ECPD.

The detective who led the operation explained why the operation is important.

” We partnered out with the Imperial County Probation Department. We want to send out a message to the community to know this is something we take seriously. We’re actively pursuing it and for future reference. We do want to convey that message that it is something of importance to us, ” said Detective Chilpa .

Woman Haven, a center for domestic violence victims in El Centro, said in February they serviced 84 people who needed help with restraining orders, child custody, and other home matters.

They added that 41 victims also found themselves without a place to call home and landed at their shelter.

In Yuma, Amberly’s Place said they serviced 235 victims during the same month.
