What you need to know: 2019 San Felipe Blues and Arts Fiesta

The San Felipe Blues and Arts Fiesta is soon approaching and we have all the details you need for the annual event.

The Blues and Arts Fiesta begins March 22 through 23 and will take place at the La Ventana del Mar Pavilion in El Dorado Ranch.

The event will have artists from the United States and Mexico gathering to showcase their art along with different blues bands. All of them gather with the purpose of raising money for charity.

The Lions International Club organizes the festival every year and its funds all go to local organizations.

“The event, Blues and Art show, is on its thirteenth year and it is our biggest event for fundraising. All the money that comes in goes 100 percent out and we donate our money to the community that needs it and this program for the hospital is one that needs it right now,” said Ana Martinez with the Lions International Club in San Felipe.

The money collected this year will go towards new equipment to keep the hospital’s operating room running, especially for the doctors to perform C-sections. That is a service the hospital is currently unable to provide forcing women to make a two-hour drive to Mexicali.

“We need to rehabilitate the maternity department in San Felipe. We don’t have the proper equipment to do C-sections. When girls are ready to deliver and have complications, they are getting sent to Mexicali instead,” said Doctor Israel Jimenez Sanchez.

Some of the most important equipment the hospital needs is used in the maternity department, according to doctor Jimenez Sanchez.

“This is the area for labor and delivery. Right now, [it] is not in service because we need the machines that transmit heat for newborns. The plan is to use the money collected during the Blues and Arts Festival to buy those two machines and the rest of the equipment,” Doctor Jimenez added.
