Imagine School files petition for reopening

The Imagine School of Imperial Valley is hoping to reopen its doors for Fall 2019. A parent meeting was held today to inform parents about the future standing of the school. The school has submitted a charter petition to The Imperial County Office of Education. The board will review the request and hold a hearing to decide if the school will receive its charter. The dual immersion charter school closed in September 2018, after the school failed to obtain their charter renewal. The school’s principal, Grace Jimenez, informed parents that the school is prepared to present their case to the board with their support. Jimenez expressed that Imagine School is not for everyone, but parents should have a choice in the type of school they choose for their children. The ICOE board has set a hearing date for April 3, 2019, to hear the petition. It will take place at Southwest High School in El Centro. Parents and staff are hoping the board will see that a bilingual school, like Imagine School, is needed in the valley.
