Mexican Mafia drug suspect sentenced in North Dakota

A man authorities say is affiliated with the Mexican Mafia has been sentenced in North Dakota to 15 years in federal prison for drug trafficking.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the case against 49-year-old David Salazar, of Packwood, Washington, began with a routine traffic stop in northwestern North Dakota in January 2017.

Berthold Police Chief Al Schmidt seized 10 pounds of methamphetamine along with cocaine and marijuana. At the time, it was the largest quantity of meth ever seized in North Dakota.

Salazar was recently sentenced on drug and weapons charges. Two co-defendants were sentenced earlier. Gregorio Capetillo got 10 years in prison and Luis Magana about 3 1/2 years.
