DUI detail set for South Yuma County

A DUI enforcement detail will be taking place in South Yuma County on March 15 through March 17 to detect, stop, and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers.

The South Yuma County DUI Task Force, which involves both the San Luis and Somerton police departments, received funding from the Arizona Governor’s Office to conduct these details, according to San Luis police.

“That’s thousands of dollars for court and lawyer fees and the maintenance of the device they install in your car and if you refuse any of the breath testings, that’s an automatic one-year suspension of your drivers’ license,” said Sgt. Franklin.

Through this funding, both police departments are able to increase their number of officers on patrol in San Luis, Ariz. and Somerton.

The DUI detail for YPD and San Luis PD will start today and end March 17th.

Officials encourage the public and those visiting to be safe and conscious drivers. If you plan to drink alcoholic beverages, please use a designated sober driver.
