Ed Foundation names High School Teacher of the Year semifinalists

The Education Foundation of Yuma announced its semifinalists for Teacher of the Year categories, a list which includes three teachers from Yuma Union High School District schools.

Rocio Ruiz of Yuma High School, Jessica Curry of Cibola High School, and Christie Nicholson of Kofa High School were named in the High School Teacher of the Year category.

The award is nominated by each teachers’ school community and is a part of the Yuma County Teacher of the Year process. The awards banquet will be held on Tuesday, April 23 , 2019.

“All three teachers are great candidates,” YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson said. “They represent the best of our mission and they were nominated by their respective campus leaders and peers, which is always a meaningful acknowledgment of the work you are doing.”

Ruiz and Curry teach English at Yuma and Cibola, respectively, while Nicholson is Kofa’s culinary teacher.
