CBP aids migrant lost in desert and needing medical attention

Border Patrol agents with the El Centro sector rescued two illegal immigrants that were stranded in the desert over the weekend.

Agents said they responded to a 911 call Saturday night of two illegal immigrants lost in the desert just outside of Plaster City. One of them was vomiting blood.

Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Jacobo said, “They were able to locate two individuals. One of the was the subject in distress. And they quickly transported them to the nearest road which is old highway 80. Where we already had Imperial County Fire standing by to render medical assistance.”

Agents said both men entered the country illegally. “He was a Mexican citizen 23-years old. And he was coming across with another individual who was 35 years old also from Mexico,” said Jacobo.

CBP said the harsh elements of the desert southwest take a toll on illegal immigrants who try to cross the border. Jacobo said, “Even in the winter time it gets really cold. Especially if they’re walking around at night time they don’t know where they are. They get lost.”

One of their priorities is to keep people safe. “Doesn’t matter who it is. What type of situation. If someone needs medical assistance and we’re there, we’re the closest ones to respond, we’re going to be there,” added Jacobo.

CBP said the men were medically cleared and processed to return to Mexico.
