Car crashes, rolls over near elementary school
A 22-year-old Calexico driver almost didn’t make it back home after he lost control of his car.
Calexico police said he was on his way to a family emergency Wednesday morning when he lost control of his car at the busy intersection of Eady and Birch, just across an elementary school, after almost hitting another car.
Det. Armando Orozco said, “[The car] skidded into the intersection, hit the southwest curb, and then hit the light pole at that intersection.”
The car crashed and flipped several times.
“The vehicle continued to skid into a small canal which caused the vehicle to go airborne and begin to flip over itself, landed in the dirt and then flip over one more time and striking a chain-link fence and then another metal structure and then landing again onto the dirt and then flipping another time,” Orozco said.
The car was a total loss. Police said the driver wore his seatbelt which likely saved his life. He sustained minor injuries. He’s facing fines for the damages. The crash is still under investigation.
Authorities encourage everyone to always drive safely even when they have an emergency.
