Multi-vehicle crash leads to several injured

Three people were hospitalized early Friday morning following a multi-vehicle crash that happened at Avenue G 1/2 and County 19th Street in Somerton.

According to the Somerton Cocopah Fire Department, fire personnel responded to a five-vehicle accident with reported injuries at 6:41 a.m.

Fire officials said a black Mazda sedan was hit from the rear by an unknown vehicle and then T-boned by a black Ford pickup. The passenger in the Mazda was complaining of pain to the right side, neck, back, and abdomen. Firefighters extricated her from the Mazda sedan and she was transported to a nearby hospital due to her injuries.

The other two passengers that were transported were out of their vehicles when the fire department arrived on scene. Authorities said it is unknown which vehicles they were traveling in. One passenger was complaining of pain to her abdomen and the other stated that she had pain to her right shoulder and hip. Both passengers were also transported to a nearby hospital.

Authorities said the cause of the incident is unknown at this time. An investigation is currently underway by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
