Crane to relocate, combine schools within district
Crane School District recently announced an initiative to reshape four schools within the district over the next two years.
The district has called the initiative – “Crane District Forward” which will implement a unification and expansion process that will ultimately impact four schools within the district.
They include:
Gowan Science Academy (GSA) H.L. Suverkrup Elementary Schools (HLS) Rancho Viejo Elementary School (RV) Salida del Sol Elementary School (SDS) “As we looked at our district landscape, while actively listening to our community requests and needs, and with much consideration on causing minimal disruptions, we considered how can we better position ou r today ‘s students to be tomorrow ‘s leaders ,” Laurie Doering, Crane School District Superintendent, said.
Crane Schools called the initiative a layered approach that will not impact district finances and will cause minimal disruption to students and operations.
The unification and expansion process will focus on several key-areas.
The changes made to the district for School Year 2019/20 will include:
Salida del Sol 3rd grade students will not move to Rancho Viejo when transitioning to 4th grade – adding 4th grade to Salida del Sol.
The changes made to the district for School Year 2020/21 will include:
5th grade students remain at Salida del Sol and the Rancho Viejo 6th grade students will transfer to SDS – making SDS a K-6th grade school. Gowan Science Academy will relocate to the existing Rancho Viejo campus, allowing more students to attend. H.L. Suverkrup Elementary will remain on its existing campus, allowing more students to attend. “Our intention is to make this process as transparent and considerate as possible for all district students, families and staff members. If your child is directly impacted by these change, you will receive ongoing communication from your child’s principal as details become available,” Doering added.
