Second flu-related death in Imperial County

A second flu-related death has been reported by the Imperial County Public Health Department on Thursday.

This is the second flu-related death in the 2018-2019 flu season.

Laboratory testing conducted showed positive results for the influenza A virus. The individual is said to be in the 50-59 age range and it is not confirmed if they received their flu shot.

Dr. Stephen Munday, County Health Officer stated, “We know that each year, the flu circulates in our community. Last year flu-related illnesses were responsible for seven deaths in Imperial County. Vaccination against influenza is strongly recommended for all persons six months of age and older, including health-care personnel. If you have not received a flu shot, it’s not too late.”

To stop the spread of flu and other respiratory illnesses, you should also:

Stay home while sick and limit contact with others Cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve or disposable tissue Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and warm water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer Avoid touching your eyes, nose · and mouth
