CBP: Officers prevent smuggling of nearly $270K worth of meth

Customs and Border Protection officers from the Port of San Luis were able to prevent the smuggling of nearly $270,000 worth of methamphetamine over the weekend.

According to a press release, officers sent a 22-year-old Mexican national, who driving a Ford SUV, for additional inspection when he tried to enter the United States on Friday. A CBP narcotics canine alerted to the vehicle’s rear seats. Officers soon discovered 30 packages of meth that weighed almost 28 pounds and are worth nearly $84,000.

On Sunday, officers referred a 22-year-old Phoenix woman for a further inspection of her Chevy truck. After a canine alerted to the vehicle, authorities removed 60 packages of meth from the vehicle’s rear doors and its spare tire. The methamphetamine weighed roughly 62 pounds and was estimated to be worth almost $186,000.

Officers seized the drugs, vehicles and arrested both individuals. Both were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
