Collision results in one fatality

A night that was intended for worship turned into tragedy for a woman in Heber. The 86-year-old woman, who was on her way to church, lost her life after she was hit by a car.

Javier Amezcua, of the California Highway Patrol, said the driver was unaware that the woman was crossing the road.

“The vehicle was traveling in its lane. It appears that the driver did not see the pedestrian crossing the roadway at the time when her vehicle was coming by,” Amezcua said.

That’s when first responders arrived on the scene to try and save the woman’s life.

“At the scene, they thought she had a broken leg and did have injuries to her hip,” said Amezcua.

The pedestrian was airlifted to a nearby hospital where her injuries proved to be fatal.

Amezcua said, “The pedestrian was pronounced dead at JFK.”

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle was not under the influence.

“Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in this collision,” said Amezcua.

Charges against the driver are pending the investigation.

Amezcua added, “At this time, the collision is still under investigation. So there are no charges pending at this time.”

California Highway Patrol said the identity of the woman who was killed is being withheld until all family members are notified.
