CBP arrest convicted child molester and kidnapper

A previously convicted sex offender was arrested by Border Patrol agents Monday afternoon, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

CBP said 63-year-old Jose C. Gomez was suspected of illegally entering the United States about 11 miles west of the Calexico port of entry.

Gomez was arrested and transported to the El Centro Station for evaluation when agents discovered that he was convicted in the state of Georgia in 2007 for Felony Child Molestation.

Gomez was sentenced to five years in prison and was deported in February of 2011 after serving his sentence.

CBP said Gomez also served two years in prison in the state of Virginia for Felony Abduction & Kidnapping on August 14, 1999.

Gomez is being held in Federal custody pending prosecution for Re-Entry after Removal.
