USCIS helps 20 children obtain U.S. citizenship certificates

Twenty children and adults received their United States Citizenship certificates with the help from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

“These applicants today derived citizenship from their parents vs. naturalization where they would have to go through a process of learning our history and the English-language,” said Alfonso De Los Cobos, the Supervisor of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Among those who became a citizen today was 19-year old Andrea Gonzalez who said the certificate she received today defines hard work.

“I would see how my mom suffered for me and my brothers to be able to live out this dream,” said Gonzalez.

She also said that now she can accomplish all the goals she has had since she was a little girl.

“I want to finish my studies, I want to be able to work, I want to have a family in the future to give my children the opportunity that my mother gave me,” said Gonzalez.

Alfonso De Los Cobos said that he encourages residents to come and ask questions, for those who want to go through the process it is a $1,000 fee, but could be waived.

USCIS holds ceremonies once a month to individuals that have completed and meant the requirements. For those requirements, you can head over to the USCIS website for that information.
