Man wanted for rape of child arrested by Border Patrol

A Mexican national accused of raping a child in Utah was arrested by Border Patrol agents near Calexico Port of Entry Thursday morning.

Custom and Border Protection said agents located a man suspected of illegally entering the United States, three miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. After agents determined the man was illegally present, he was arrested and transported to the El Centro station.

CBP officials identified the man as a 32-year-old Mexican national. It was also revealed that he has an active warrant out of West Valley City, UT for felony rape of a child.

“This is precisely why border security is so important,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David Kim. “Individuals like this pose a threat to public safety and know they will not be granted permission to enter our county. The men and women of the Border Patrol stand between these threats and our communities.”

CBP said the man will be extradited to Utah for his active warrant. He told agents that he planned to travel to Los Angeles, Calif. where he would stay indefinitely.
