Study: Majority of Yuma city employees’ salaries below market

Yuma police officers, firefighters, and every other city employee was the topic of conversation at Tuesday’s Yuma City Council work session.

This after the results of the City of Yuma’s 2019 compensation study were presented.

It was discovered that only 22 percent of city employees are making competitive wages. This means 78 percent of jobs surveyed are behind the market, according to Kay Tilzer, Vice President of Public Sector Personnel Consultants.

Yuma was compared to cities like Tucson and Peoria, according to the presentation.

The city council is set to discuss city pay plans Wednesday night at Yuma City Hall.
