Trial set for San Luis man charged with multiple felonies

The man charged for aggravated assault and burglary, among other charges, appeared in front a judge in a Yuma courtroom Tuesday, where he was given the option to take a plea agreement or head to trial.

Raul Tejeda, 28, was arrested back in July after forcing his way into a person’s home and making threats to kill the victim.

Tuesday, prosecutors read out loud the six charges against Tejeda. They include aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, kidnapping per domestic violence, burglary, aggravated assault per domestic violence, criminal damage, and unlawful flight from police.

Prosecutors offered Tejeda a plea agreement but said if he did not accept it, the agreement would be withdrawn.

Judge David M. Haws gave the defense until Friday to make a decision.

Otherwise, Tejeda is expected to head to jury trial on January 29, 2019.

Prosecuting attorneys also mentioned Tejeda was previously convicted in 2010 for burglary, and in 2014 for domestic violence.

If he is convicted on all six counts, he could face anywhere from 25 to 80 years in prison.

The Yuma Police Department arrested Tejeda in July after they received a tip that suspect was spotted at the Del Sol Market on Fourth Avenue. With the help of Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, the two agencies set up a perimeter around the store.

Tejeda was found hiding inside the market in an employee bathroom, according to YCSO.
