San Luis appoints new fire chief

A 15-year veteran of the San Luis Fire Department was appointed as its new fire chief during a city council meeting this month.

Angel Ramirez, who was serving as acting fire chief, began his career with the fire department in 2004. Throughout his 15 years of service, Ramirez rose through the department’s ranks. Ramirez became fire captain in January 2013 and was then promoted as assistant fire chief on August 2017. He became acting fire chief in February 2018 following the retirement of Hank Green.

“Mr. Ramirez is exceptionally qualified to serve the position and lead the department,” said San Luis Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “We are honored and proud to have Chief Angel Ramirez serving our community.”

Ramirez is also a certified public manager, holds a paramedic degree, hazardous materials technician degree, and a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Arizona State University.

Chief Ramirez has also completed and graduated from the State Fire Chief Academy.
