Cyclist killed, women loses leg in vehicle collision

California Highway Patrol said a 25-year-old man riding his bicycle at night was struck and killed by a pickup driven by a Niland resident.

The cyclist was pulling a woman and her dog which were riding on a cart along Beal Road near The Range at the Slabs. The dog was killed in the collision and the woman suffered severe injuries. One of her legs was partially amputated.

CHP said the collision is under investigation. They said no drugs or alcohol were involved. The driver was not arrested and is cooperating with the investigation.
